China calls on the United States to “completely cancel” customs duties
A spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said in a statement: We call on the United States to take a major step to correct its mistakes, cancel the wrong practice of imposing fully mutual customs duties, and returning to the right track of mutual respect.
Amid a trade war with China, a state of confusion in the financial markets sparked the United States on Friday and decided to exempt smartphones and computers from the additional customs duties imposed by Donald Trump.
On Sunday, the Chinese Ministry of Trade described this measure as a small step, noting that it “evaluates its effect.”
Customs exempt goods
The exemptions published on Friday evening in a notice issued by the US Customs and Protection Office cover different electronic goods, including smartphones and the components of the United States entering from China, and are currently under 145%additional customs tariffs.
This decision is especially due to giant technology companies, such as Apple, which manufactures the iPhone phone and the other major brand products in China.
Beijing responded on Friday to Trump by increasing customs duties on all American products to 125%, starting from Saturday.
American customs data indicate that exempt commodities represent more than 20% of Chinese imports, according to the researcher at the Rand Gerard Dybo Foundation.
However, semi -conductors may remain a target of customs duties for this sector that Trump suggested imposing on imports from all countries.
Feasts on semiconductors
Trump said on Saturday that he would provide a very specific answer to whether he would impose future fees on semiconductors.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said in a statement on Sunday that the customs duties imposed by Trump “had not solved any problem of the United States, and undermined the global system of economy and trade.”
On Friday, Chinese Minister of Trade Wang Winno warned that customs duties may “cause serious harm” to developing countries.
