Closing of the activities of the fifth edition of the African Union Reconstruction and Development Awareness Week

The activities of the fifth edition of the African Union Awareness Week for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development concluded yesterday, November 23, 2025, the main part of which was hosted by Cairo for the first time, organized by the African Union Center for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development, which is headquartered in Cairo, and in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptians Abroad Affairs. The activities were issued by issuing a presidential statement on November 16th.

The activities were launched in Cairo on November 20th by holding a high-level symposium entitled “Reparative Justice and Resilient Recovery for Women, Children, and People in Vulnerable Situations,” and Ambassador Dr. Mohamed Omar Gad, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director of the Department of African Organizations and Groupings, representing the Minister of Foreign Affairs, opened the symposium with the Executive Secretary of the African Union Center, where he stressed the importance that Egypt attaches to reconstruction and development efforts, while considering conflicts as among the basic pillars of restoring sustainable peace, security and development on the African continent, especially in light of the President of the Republic assuming leadership of the file of post-conflict reconstruction and development in the African Union. 

He also pointed out the importance of compensatory justice and the involvement of all groups. Society, especially women and youth, in recovery and reconciliation efforts in countries emerging from conflict, and the need to adopt comprehensive policies that take into account the link between achieving peace and security and social and economic development.

 He also praised the efforts of the African Union Commission and the African Union Centre, hosted by Egypt, in this regard.

The activities also included holding a round table entitled “Rebuilding for Peace: Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development in the Horn of Africa.” “The big one” At the headquarters of the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Preservation and Peacebuilding, as well as holding a simulation session for the African Union summit presented by students of the British International School in Cairo, and holding a reception for members of the diplomatic community in Cairo, as well as holding a photo exhibition about the activities and efforts of the Center regarding capacity building and awareness of post-conflict reconstruction and development.
