A great sadness in the cinematic milieu .. Who is Fatima Hassouna, who was killed by Israel?

He was saddened by the international cinematic circles after the news of the martyrdom of the young Palestinian photographer Fatima Hassouna, after an Israeli shelling targeting her family’s house in the Gaza Strip, just weeks before her first films were shown at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.

Hassouna, who recently completed her 25th year, was known for her passion for photographing and documenting the details of daily life in Gaza, whether before the Israeli war that has continued since October 7, 2023 or in it. She worked with local and international media organizations and institutions, and presented to the world pictures that mimic pain and steadfastness in the besieged sector.

Fatima recently entered the world of cinema through her participation in a documentary film entitled “Put your soul on your palm and walk”, directed by the exile Iranian Speeda Persian. The film, which documents life under the war in Gaza, was chosen to be shown in one of the programs of the Cannes International Film Festival, in a move that was a remarkable achievement of Fatima, but unfortunately coincided with her tragic departure.

The story of Fatima sparked a wide interaction, as the Independent Distribution Film Association (ACID), who nominated the film for the show, called for the work show “as a certificate that must be seen in every cinematic hall, starting who was.”

Fatima studied multiple media at the University College of Applied Sciences, and she devoted her lens to transfer the stories of people and scenes of life in Gaza, through pictures attached to influential texts, which were widely spread, especially through the UnTOLD PALESTINE platform. She also participated in international exhibitions, most notably “Gaza Habibi” and “Safe”, and her work appeared in international media such as the British newspaper “The Guardian”.

Fatima formed a prominent visual voice of Gaza, and a loved person at the local level, reflected in the expressions of obituary that the media platforms and journalistic federations, including the International Federation of Journalists, who inherited it as a “witness to the truth, and an unforgettable image.” (Arm News)
