Hossam Zaki: The Baghdad Summit discusses Arab challenges and supports the developmental path

Ambassador Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary -General of the League of Arab States, stressed that the Arab summit scheduled in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, will discuss a number of priority political and development files on the Arab scene … noting that the meeting of the Arab Foreign Ministers held today comes within the framework of the continuous preparations for the convening of this important summit.

He pointed out that the agenda includes central political issues, on top of which is the Palestinian issue in all its dimensions, in addition to the conditions of crises in Syria, Libya, Yemen, Sudan and Lebanon, along with the files of Arab solidarity, development and social challenges. He stressed that Iraq, as a host country, is fully aware of its responsibilities and obligations towards the success of the next summit, stressing the importance of the Iraqi role in this accurate stage of the course of joint Arab action. On the situation in Lebanon and the Israeli attacks, Ambassador Hossam Zaki said that the university is following with great interest in the ongoing Israeli attacks, and condemning them categorically, stressing that any violation of Arab sovereignty is rejected. Zaki said that the Israeli attacks, whatever they were, and wherever they occurred on Arab land, we condemn them completely, whether these attacks are in Lebanon, Syria, Palestinian lands or any other Arab land, our position on them is principled and fixed, and is based on the comprehensive condemnation of any violation of the sovereignty of Arab countries. With regard to the file of weapons in Lebanon, Ambassador Zaki stressed that this issue is one of the issues around which there is a clear Arab consensus … noting that this position is explicitly stipulated in the decisions of the Arab League, which clearly states the need to restrict weapons in the hands of the Lebanese state.
