The Emirates launches the third session of "Mohammed bin Rashid International Aviation Award"

Dubai, April 24 / WAM / The General Authority of Civil Aviation announced the launch of the third session of the “Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Award”, which is one of the most prominent international awards aimed at supporting innovation and sustainability in the aviation sector, and this session comes in partnership with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), according to the cooperation agreement signed between the two sides during the activities of the global sustainable aviation market last February.
The prize value is one million US dollars, and aims to stimulate innovations and research that contribute to the development of sustainable aircraft fuel and enhance sustainability in the aviation industry.
His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al -Marri, Minister of Economy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, affirmed on this occasion, the UAE’s keenness thanks to the directives of its rational leadership to enhance its leadership role in stimulating innovation, and supporting a more sustainable prosperous future in the global aviation sector.

He pointed out that the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Award is one of the prominent Emirati contributions in this context, as it enhances pushing the shift towards a more sustainable flight sector in the world.
His Excellency added that through this course, a focus is on encouraging the activities and fields of scientific research and innovation, and honoring individuals and institutions that contribute to developing sustainable aircraft fuel solutions, stressing that the award will be a major driver to expand the horizon of international cooperation in the field of aviation, which supports joint efforts towards achieving a more sustainable and safe world.
For his part, His Excellency Saif Muhammad Al -Suwaidi, Director General of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, said that the third session of the award was developed to reflect the deep commitment to a more sustainable future for the aviation industry, as the categories of this session aim to stimulate positive competition between academic, research and scientific institutions concerned with the aviation sector, with the aim of finding innovative and implemented solutions that contribute to promoting the sustainability of this vital sector, which is in line with the state’s vision in supporting and developing the aviation sector on the aviation sector on Global level.
For his part, Juan Carlos Salasar, Secretary -General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), said that access to a flight free of carbon emissions is possible, and initiatives such as the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Award for Aviation proves this. Every day, researchers and innovators show that sustainable aviation is within our hands, by developing solutions that were impossible only a few years ago.

He praised this initiative, which would accelerate the pace of progress towards aviation sustainability, pointing out that this matter is of special importance for sustainable fuel for aviation, as it is a decisive factor in achieving the goal of reaching the net zero emissions by 2050.
The third session of the award aims to honor individuals, organizations and institutions that contribute to developing the aviation sector across three specific categories.
The first category includes academic institutions – university students, and focuses on accelerating the development and adoption of sustainable aviation fuel solutions.
The first -place winner gets $ 250,000, while the second -place winner gets $ 150,000, and third place is $ 100,000.
The second category includes academic institutions – graduate students, and academic institutions target graduate studies that contribute to sustainable flying fuel solutions, and prizes are distributed to three centers in this category with the same financial values ​​for the first category: $ 250,000 for first place, $ 150,000 for second place, and $ 100,000 for third place.
The third category includes research institutions, where research institutions that contribute to developing innovative sustainable flying solutions will be honored.
The award seeks to stimulate the next generation of innovators in the field of aviation sustainability, with the academic basis for future aviation fuel solutions.

It also encourages the development of solutions that address critical issues such as the environmental imprint of aviation, economic feasibility, policy support, and integration into the current environmental systems of aviation.

All prizes are based on 6 basic criteria, which are the basic criteria for innovation, the possibility of practical application, sustainability, economic cost, the impact on developing policies and regulatory frameworks, and the possibility of integrating solutions into the current infrastructure.
