المملكة: Jeddah .. expanding the use of the product of demolishing buildings with asphalt mixtures

To complete its initiative to use the product of demolishing buildings in asphalt mixtures, the General Authority for Roads announced the expansion of the use of the product of buildings in Jeddah Governorate, using building waste and demolition within the asphalt paving layers, in cooperation with the Jeddah Municipality.
Through this initiative, the Authority and honesty seek to enhance environmental sustainability and develop a more efficient infrastructure, in response to environmental challenges.

Management of construction and demolitions

The construction and demolition waste management is part of the transformation plan towards the circular economy in the Kingdom, which aims to recycle 60% of these waste by 2035.
The authority had conducted a research study through the Road Research Center, to assess the performance of asphalt mixtures and stones that contain the resulting rubble of breaking the waste of old buildings and concrete.

Establishing and maintaining roads in Saudi Arabia

The authority confirms that this project embodies the Kingdom’s vision in converting environmental challenges into innovative opportunities, and contributes to reducing the environmental impact resulting from the accumulation of waste, in addition to reducing dependence on raw materials, which contributes to reducing the costs of establishing and maintaining roads, and enhances the sector’s sustainability and friendship to the environment.
This comes within the efforts of the General Authority for Roads in achieving the targets of the bandits strategy, which is based on quality, safety and traffic density, and enhances the role of innovation in developing national infrastructure.
This is based on the role of the authority as an honorable body organized for the road network in the Kingdom by unifying all standards and policies that contribute to upgrading the experience of road users.
