“Triple” mechanism to help students choose the new academic path

The Ministry of Education revealed the details of the plan to implement the new updates on the system of educational paths that have been reduced to two tracks, namely (a year and ahead), as it is applied from the next academic year 2025-2026, and extends until 2028, to enable students to choose study paths that comply with their academic tendencies and their professional orientations, and at the same time meet the needs of the national labor market.

The ministry said, as part of a comprehensive plan seen by «Emirates Today»: “The new plan begins with a radical restructuring of the options available to students, as the (elite path) was finally canceled after it was decided that the last batch in it was in 2025-2026, and work is also being done to restructure the applied path, with the announcement of the details of its later later.”

The plan is currently focused on two main tracks, which includes the general path designated for students interested in studying fields, such as humanities and social sciences, business administration, police sciences, arts, and the advanced path directed to students with scientific tendencies and those interested in accurate specializations, such as medicine, engineering, pharmacy, and advanced science.

Triple mechanism

The Ministry adopted a triple mechanism, to help students take the decision to choose their academic path according to recent updates, as the student should discover interests through self -questions, such as: What materials do you love? Where do I see myself after 10 years? In addition to the discussion and consultation with the family, teachers, academic counselor and colleagues, and finally the decision to choose the most appropriate path, and determine the appropriate scenario according to its inclinations and capabilities, and the ministry explained in the totalitarian plan, the relationship of paths on the conditions of university admission, saying: “Ministerial Resolution No. (19) of 2024 is the guideline standards for admission to higher education institutions, according to the academic degree, where it requires Study diploma and higher diploma is a rate of at least 70% for the student.

Bachelor’s

The Ministry imposed accurate requirements for studying a bachelor’s degree in university specializations of a scientific nature, explaining that medicine and dentistry need a rate of 90% in mathematics and 90% in two subjects of physics, chemistry or neighborhoods, and in pharmacy 80% in mathematics, and 80% in two scientific subjects.

She stated that the study of engineering requires 80% in mathematics and physics, and 80% in chemistry or neighborhoods, while the law needs 70% in mathematics, and there are no specific scientific requirements for the rest of the majors, whether in the general or advanced path.

Time distribution

The Ministry revealed, through the parents ’guide and students of educational paths in the third episode, the details of the time distribution of paths according to the classes, where the ninth grade students study in the advanced path physics and neighborhoods, and the 10 grade of physics and chemistry, while students of 11 and 12 grades are studying according to the scenario, the first is the study of two scientific subjects, and the second is the study of three scientific subjects (physics, chemistry and biology).

On the other hand, the ninth grade students study in the general course of science, and in the 10 grade, the student studies physics and neighborhoods, and in the 11 grades and 12 he is taught according to only two scenarios, the first is directed to those with inclinations for social and human sciences, and the second simulates people with scientific tendencies, and it requires obtaining at least 75% in the subjects of mathematics and physics in the 10 grade.

The ministry stated: “In this path, the 12 grade is allowed to replace physics in one of the following optional subjects: art, health sciences, computing, creative design and innovation (CCDI), provided that a written declaration from the student and his guardian is submitted.”

The second scenario

The ministry stressed that the second scenario in the public track is only available in the academic year 2025-2026, and it will not be an option in the following years, and the transition from the ninth grade “year” to the 10th grade “advanced” possible only in 2025-2026.

She stated that the students of the public path who fail in physics must choose an alternative subject, but this may affect the chances of accepting them in scientific specializations, explaining that in the event of failure in the 11 or 12 grades, the class is repeated in full according to the first scenario, regardless of the previous path, and the ministry has identified the mechanisms of transition between tracks and scenarios according to accurate organizational requirements, where the student was enabled from the transfer from the “public” To the “applicant” in specific ranks (from eighth to ninth or from ninth to 10), provided that 80% in the English language, mathematics and science subjects are achieved in the first semester, and the student can move between scenarios within the same path, and this is only permitted in the 11 grade, during the first two weeks of the start of the school year, and no changes are allowed in the scenarios of 12 students, as the student is committed to what he chose in the 11 grade.
