An international invitation to end the use of medicine to distort female genital organs

According to a new guidance guide issued by the organization today, the health sector plays a pivotal role in ending this practice and supporting the survivors of it. However, he pointed out that the year 2020 witnessed the submission of about 52 million girls and women to distort the genitals by two health workers, which equals one in every 4 cases.

The organization stressed the importance of involving health workers in efforts to prevent this harmful practice known as “female circumcision”. The new guide holds recommendations to prevent this practice and ensure the provision of evidence for survivors.

Dr. Pascal Awti, director of sexual and reproductive health at the World Health Organization, said: “Female genital mutilation is a serious violation of girls’ rights and puts their health at risk. Health workers should be changes to change and not practicing this harmful habit.”

The organization warned that the practice of distortion by two health workers may lead to deeper and more serious injuries, and that the use of medicine in this practice may give it unintended legitimacy.

The evidence recommended that an explicit ban on the distortion of the female genital organs within the professional behavior blogs, while emphasizing the importance of training health workers on sensitive communication methods that help them to reject requests for distortion and educate societies of its risks.

World Health Organization, Christina Balto – who led the development of new guidelines – confirmed that health workers can be the leaders of the opinion with an influence on changing opinions on distorting female genital organs and preventing its practice.

She said that the involvement of doctors, nurses, and midwives is an essential element in prevention efforts, calling for integrating these efforts with effective laws, policies and community awareness programs.
