Within a week, consumers spending in Saudi Arabia exceeding 11 billion riyals

Points of sales in Saudi Arabia recorded more than 11.37 billion riyals in the spending of consumers within one week, through about 199,751 thousand sales, according to a recent report issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA).

The report for the period from 20 to 26 April 2025 showed a slight decrease of 1.1% in the number of operations, and 0.8% in the value of operations compared to the previous week.

Performance of different sectors

In the performance details, according to the sectors, the restaurants and cafes sector maintained its lead in terms of the number of operations with 55,432 thousand operations, achieving the value of transactions amounting to 1.64 billion riyals.

It was followed by the food and beverage sector, which recorded 47,134 thousand operations worth 1.66 billion riyals.

As for the clothing and shoes sector, it recorded 4,604 thousand operations at a value of 607 million riyals, a decrease of 1.9% in the number of operations and 0.1% in the value of operations.

The construction and construction materials sector recorded 1,482 thousand operations at a value of 314 million riyals, low 1.14% in the number of operations and 1.11% in value.

While the education sector recorded a clear decline, the number of operations reached 145 thousand operations, at a value of 137 million riyals, with a decrease of 8.2% in the number of operations and 17.5% in value.

The electronic and electrical devices sector recorded 1,029 thousand operations at a value of 153 million riyals, with a slight growth of 0.8% in the number of operations and 3.5% in value.

The fuel stations also recorded 15,751 thousand operations worth 859 million riyals, an increase of 1.1% in operations, with a slight decrease of 0.5% in value.

Health and furniture

In the health sector, 7,325 thousand operations were carried out at a value of 732 million riyals, with a decrease of 5.3% in the number of operations and 3.4% in the value of operations.

As for the furniture sector, it recorded 1,021 thousand operations at a value of 225 million riyals, a decrease of 2.2% in the number of operations and 1.3% in value.

In the hotel sector, the number of operations reached 641 thousand operations of 255 million riyals, a decrease of 5.4% in operations and 13.7% in value.

The general benefits sector also recorded 670 thousand operations worth 44 million riyals, with a slight decline of 0.7% in operations and 4.3% in value.

On the other hand, the jewelry sector achieved a remarkable growth of 1.4% in the number of operations and 18.2% in the value of operations, recording 181 thousand operations worth 321 million riyals.

As for the various goods and services sector, it recorded 20,587 thousand operations worth 1.35 billion riyals, with a decline of 1.44% in the number of operations and 2.7% in value.

Entertainment, culture and communications

The entertainment and culture sector recorded 2,435 thousand operations of 210 million riyals, with a slight increase in operations by 0.3%, but it witnessed a decrease of 7.4% in the value of operations.

As for the telecommunications sector, it recorded 1,774 thousand operations worth 94 million riyals, an increase of 2.4% in the number of operations, with a decline in 2.2% in value.

The transport sector recorded 2,482 thousand operations worth 666 million riyals, with a decrease of 2.0% in operations and 2.8% in value.

Finally, the other category recorded 37,058 thousand operations worth 2.10 billion riyals, with a slight improvement of 0.2% in the number of operations and 3.4% in value.

Geographical performance

In terms of geographical performance, Riyadh topped the operations with 65,840 thousand operations, and a value of 4.11 billion riyals, with a slight growth of 0.2% in operations and 0.1% in value compared to the previous week.

It was followed by Jeddah, which recorded 23,754 thousand operations worth 1.66 billion riyals, with a decrease of 1.7% in the number of operations and 0.5% in value.

In Dammam, 8,537 thousand operations were recorded at a value of 603 million riyals, with a growth of 0.8% in operations and 1.7% in value.

As for Medina, it recorded 7,942 thousand operations worth 421 million riyals, a decrease of 1.7% in operations and 7.7% in value.

The city of Makkah Al -Mukarramah recorded 7,527 thousand operations worth 421 million riyals, a decrease of 3.5% in operations and 5.7% in value.

While the city of Khobar witnessed a remarkable growth of 1.0% in the number of operations and 5.5% in the value of operations, and the operations reached 4,502 thousand operations worth 372 million riyals.

In other cities such as Buraidah, Abha, Hail and Tabuk, the operations recorded a slight decline in performance, and the decline ranged between 1.7% and 2.6%, according to the city.

As for the rest of the cities combined, they recorded 66,587 thousand operations worth 3 billion riyals, with a decrease of 2.0% in operations and 1.2% in value.
