“Saudi Patient Safety” enhances the culture and quality of service during 2024

The annual report of the 2024 health sector transformation showed a set of initiatives and achievements presented by the Saudi Center for Patient Safety, in the context of its efforts to enhance health care safety in the Kingdom and improve the quality of services provided to patients. The initiative of “choosing with the wisdom of the work of the center, as it contributed to reducing the use of unnecessary medical examinations and procedures and enhancing communication between the patient and health practitioner, and making more conscious therapeutic decisions, This initiative, which was applied in 28 hospitals, resulted in the avoidance of more than (150,336) unnecessary medical requests, which helped reduce the potential risks to patients and increase the efficiency of health resources.

In a step that embodies the commitment to enhance the culture of safety for emerging generations, the “Friends of Salama” program achieved remarkable success in spreading awareness about the concepts of patient safety among children, and through educational and interactive activities within schools, the program was able to reach more than a million students in various parts of the Kingdom, which enhances the importance of instilling safety principles from a young age, this achievement embodies the center’s efforts in building a safer environment, and establishing the concept of health responsibility among students In an innovative and attractive style

In the context of developing the national patient safety structure, the report reviewed the center’s efforts to create unified systems to measure the indicators of patient safety, as more than 500 local performance indicators were reviewed and evaluated, and (30) indicated major indicators to measure patient safety in health facilities, with the participation of more than (15) entities and a healthy sector, its practical outputs were to include detailed definitions of indicators, used to formulate Data policies and decisions based on data.

The Director General of the Saudi Patient Center for Patient Safety, Dr. Ali bin Talaa Asiri, stressed that enhancing patient safety is one of the basic pillars to improve the quality of health services, which contributes to achieving a safer health experience for the patient, noting that the center works integrally with the various health authorities to make the safety of patients an integral part of the culture of health work in the Kingdom.
