The ruler of Sharjah is directed to organize the fourth session of Arab poetry convergences in Africa

Sharjah on June 3 / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, directed the Department of Culture in Sharjah to organize the fourth session of Arab poetry forums in Africa, in 9 countries: Chad, Mali, Ivory Coast, Benne, Nigeria, Guinea, Senegal, South Sudan and Niger.
The nine countries in the continent of Africa have completed their preparatory preparations to receive the fourth session of the Initiative of Poetic Forum in Africa, whose first activities will start from the Republic of Chad, while continuing in various countries, with the African round of Arab poetry in the Republic of Niger ending in September.
The procedures for preparing the comprehensive culture circle with African countries included during the past months, to ensure the presentation of forums in their best organizational and cultural forms.
Mohamed Ibrahim Al -Qusayr, Director of the Cultural Affairs Department at the Culture Department in Sharjah said that poetry forums in Africa are a cultural initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, with the aim of supporting the cultural and literary movement in the African continent, and enhancing the presence of the Arabic language and literature among its speakers from the continent, indicating that the forums seek to extend bridges of cultural communication between people Discover poetic talents, revive the traditions of Arab poetry, and enhance cultural exchange between poets and intellectuals in Africa and the Arab world.
Al -Qusair pointed out that the forums, which were organized in a number of African capitals and cities, witnessed a wide interaction of writers and intellectuals, and contributed to highlighting the poetic energies inherent in the continent, and the deep impact that the Arabic language has in the cultures of African peoples, focusing that the forums seek to promote the presence of Arab poetry in Africa, and open the way for young poets to express their creativity And develop their skills.
He added that poetry forums in Africa are an extension of the poetry houses initiative in the Arab world launched by Sharjah in a number of Arab countries, which aim to create spaces that embrace creators, and provide them with cultural spaces, in a way that establishes the position of Arab poetry as one of the most important pillars of the Arab cultural identity.
Al -Qusayr pointed out that Sharjah opened new horizons for African poets to participate in the literary and cultural activities that the emirate embraces, as it hosted a number of poets of African countries, and gave them the opportunity to present their creative experiences and share their poems alongside a group of Arab poets.
He said that the houses of poetry in the Arab world also contributed to strengthening the African presence in the Arab cultural scene by hosting them in the events and festivals that they organize throughout the year.
He continued that in the context of Sharjah’s support for the creators, Al -Qawafi Magazine – issued by the Sharjah Culture Department – published selected works for a number of African poets, which gave them a prominent platform to reach a broader audience of readers and followers, while a number of them won the Golden Golden Prize, which is awarded by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, in appreciation of their distinguished contributions in the field of poetry, which confirms the commitment Sharjah in its pioneering role in supporting Arab culture and opening up to international poetic experiences.
The Department of Cultural Affairs will begin implementing the fourth stage of this initiative, which will include the organization of poetry forums in Guinea, Nigeria, Senegal, Chad, Niger, Mali, South Sudan, Benin and Ivory Coast, according to a timetable in the forums during the year 2025.
The activities are held in cooperation between the Department of Culture and local cultural institutions in those countries, where efforts are consistently and practical in which they are fruked from distinguished poetry forums.
It is noteworthy that a number of African countries have witnessed the organization of a forum for Arab poetry for the first time in its history, during the first session.
It is noteworthy that the poetry forums in Africa presented, in its first session, 114 poets and poets, and in the second session more than 120 creators and creators, while the third session witnessed the participation of more than 150 creators, to form vital cultural spaces that embrace creators of different generations, and contribute to enriching the poetic scene and promoting Arab cultural diversity in Africa.
