"Zayed International Environment" Calling urgent measures to address plastic pollution

Dubai, June 5/ WAM/ The Zayed International Environment Corporation called for urgent steps at the national and international levels to reduce plastic pollution, confirming its commitment to active participation in efforts to reduce this phenomenon and reduce its devastating effects on human health and environmental systems.
This came on the occasion of the International Environment Day, which is celebrated this year under the slogan “Eliminating plastic pollution”.
His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Ahmed bin Fahd, President of the Foundation, stressed that the plastic materials, despite their importance in daily life, have turned into a serious environmental threat, indicating that humanity produces more than 400 million tons annually of plastic, 40% of which are used only once, while more than 10 million tons are thrown in the seas and oceans annually.
He explained that the fine plastic molecules have become spread throughout the planet, and were discovered even within human bodies, which is a direct threat to public health.
The Foundation praised the initiative led by the United Nations Environment Program to conclude an international agreement binding to reduce plastic pollution, stressing the importance of the provisions of this agreement to be reflected in the environmental policies of all countries.
The Foundation called for a set of urgent measures at the national level, which includes reducing dependence on mono -use plastic products, modernizing environmental laws, stimulating investment in sustainable alternatives, intensifying community awareness, supporting youth initiatives, promoting recycling, international waste management, and integrating environmental issues in education and media.
Dr. Ibn Fahd stressed that the elimination of plastic pollution is no longer an option, but rather an urgent necessity to ensure a safe future for future generations, calling on everyone to join joint work under the slogan: “Together towards a planet free of plastic pollution.”
