3 red cards and 4 goals at the Boca Juniors Summit and Benfica

The Argentine Boca Juniors was overwhelmed by a victory that was sufficient after it was satisfied with a 2-2 draw against Benfica, in one of the first round matches in the Club World Cup, in the third group competitions hosted by the United States.

Boca Juniors presented a clean double in the first half an hour of the meeting, but the Argentine team failed to maintain its preference, to receive two goals and come out with one point of the confrontation, which witnessed three cases of expulsion.

Miguel Merrentiel scored the first goal for Boca in the 21st minute, before Rodrigo Bataglia added the second goal in the 27th minute, to seem that the Argentine team is on his way to achieve a valuable victory.

But things turned at the end of the first half, as veteran star Angel de Maria reduced the result of Benfica from a penalty kick in the third minute of stoppage time, taking advantage of a clear tension in Boca’s defenses.

In the 84th minute, Benfica defender Nicholas Outamici managed to tie his team with a tight header, to deprive Boca of the full match points.

The confrontation witnessed nervous events, which resulted in the expulsion of three players. The beginning was on the part of Boca Ander Herrera defender, who received a red card directly in the 45th minute, despite sitting on the bench after his emergency replacement at the beginning of the match. In the 70th minute, Andrea Pelotti was expelled from Benfica, before Jorge completed the red trilogy with his expulsion in the 89th minute of the match.

With this result, the two teams shared second place in the third group with one point for each of them, behind Bayern Munich, which topped the group with a 10-0 overwhelming victory over the New Zealand Auckland City.

The group’s confrontations continue on Friday, when Boca Juniors collides with Bayern Munich, while Benfica meets with Auckland City. The leaders and runners -up of the group qualify for the exclusionary roles of the championship.
