Human Rights Office: The Palestinians are exposed to increasingly forced displacement in the West Bank and East Jerusalem

The office said, in a statement issued today, Thursday, that the Sub -Planning Committee of the Israeli Civil Administration issued a decision on June 18 to reject all construction and planning permits submitted by the Palestinians in the traveler of Yatta, south of Hebron Mountains, in the area rated by the Israeli authorities as the “fire area 918”, on the pretext that the Israeli army needs to use the area for “military training” purposes.
He added that during the past months, Israel has greatly escalated the demolitions of homes, in addition to arbitrary detention and the mistreatment of Palestinians and human rights defenders, and stressed restrictions on freedom of movement inside and around a traveler of Yatta with the aim of forcing the Palestinians to leave the region.
In parallel, the Israeli settlers rose from the neighboring outposts – located inside the “shooting zone”, but without the evacuation orders – from their daily attacks and attacks on Palestinians, including the elderly, women and children, were included in an attempt to force them to leave, according to the Human Rights Office.
Preparing the road for the existing buildings
The Human Rights Office said that the recent decision of the Israeli civil administration paves the way for the Israeli army to destroy the structures and buildings in the region, and to expel nearly 1,200 Palestinians who have lived there for decades. He added that this displacement represents a forced deprivation, and is considered “a war crime, and it can also rise to the level of a crime against humanity if it is installed as part of a large -scale attack or a methodological directed against any civilian residents, knowing the attack.”
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 6,463 Palestinians were forcibly displaced as a result of the demolition of their homes by Israel, from October 7, 2023 until May 31, 2025, and these figures do not include about 40,000 Palestinians who have been displaced from the three refugee camps in Jenin and Tulkram as a result of intense Israeli military operations in the northern West Bank since December January 2, 2025. During the same period, more than 2,200 Palestinians were subjected to forced displacement due to settlers’ attacks and the restrictions imposed on arrival.
Reinforcing a forced environment
The Human Rights Office indicated that many other Palestinian gatherings face the same fate of forced displacement. He said that on June 10, 2025, it was reported that the Jerusalem municipality had issued notifications of complete demolition of the village of Al -Numan, which is inhabited by 150 Palestinians. The village is located near Bethlehem, and was isolated from the rest of the West Bank due to the annexation and expansion wall, and was included in the municipal borders of Jerusalem, which Israel announced unilaterally.
He cautioned that the majority of the Palestinian village residents did not grant a Jerusalem identity cards, which made them actually unable to reach services, whether in East Jerusalem or the rest of the West Bank. The office said that these demolition orders seem to be an additional step within Israel’s efforts to perpetuate a forced environment that pushes the Palestinians to leave and enhance the annexation of the land.
Decisions of evacuation in East Jerusalem
The United Nations Office for Human Rights in the occupied Palestinian territory explained that the Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem are facing a continuous threat to the forced evacuation of their homes and lands.
He stated that on June 16 and 22, the Israeli Supreme Court supported decisions to evacuate five Palestinian families – including 37 individuals – from their homes in the Batn Al -Hawa neighborhood in Silwan, based on discriminatory laws that allow Jews to claim property they lost in the 1948 war, while Palestinian families are deprived of the same right.
According to the office, on June 11, the “Israel Land Authority” issued orders to evacuate homes in Umm Tuba, which will affect 150 Palestinians, claiming that the land was registered for the “Jewish National Fund” under the settlement of land ownership.
The office said that these evacuation is part of a systematic campaign implemented by the Israeli state and settlement organizations, targeting Palestinian neighborhoods to seize the homes of the Palestinians and expand the Jewish settlements.
He stressed that these practices constitute a violation of international law, which prohibits the confiscation of private property in the occupied land, as confirmed by the International Court of Justice in its advisory opinion last July.
