Sharjah Heritage Institute: Preserving heritage to protect national identity

Sharjah, April 18 / WAM / His Excellency Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Muslim, Chairman of the Sharjah Heritage Institute, stressed the continuation of efforts to preserve the living memory that constitutes the essence of national identity, pointing out that cultural heritage is not just tales from the past, but rather the basic pillar on which the Sharjah Cultural Project is based, with the wise vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who made culture a global language of communication and a beacon for generations.
On the occasion of World Heritage Day, Al-Musallam said: “We believe that preserving popular heritage and historical sites is a national and humanitarian duty. On April 18 of every year, we join the world in celebrating this treasure of knowledge, emphasizing that protecting heritage is a protection of identity and cultural value in the face of globalization trends, and emphasizing the endeavor to instill awareness of the importance of heritage in the souls of young people to be their gateway to a future that combines the authenticity of roots and the ambition of modernity.”
