The UAE is looking with Singapore, Estonia, Spain and Japan and"Wiko" Cooperation in intellectual property protection applications

Geneva, July 9 / WAM / His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al -Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, discussed ways of cooperation between the UAE and a number of countries and international organizations in the field of empowering innovation and intellectual property protection in its various fields and applications.

His Excellency, on the sidelines of the participation of the UAE delegation in the meetings of the Associations of Member States in the “WIPO” for the year 2025 in Geneva, held bilateral meetings with His Excellency Lisa Lee Bakosta, Minister of Justice and Digital Affairs in Estonia, and His Excellency Luke Joe, the permanent agent of the Ministry of Law in Singapore, Darin Tang, Director General Rodriguez Ortez, Director of Patents and Trademarks Office in Spain, along with representatives of the International Trademarks Association (INTA), and Japanese Patent Office officials.

His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq stressed, during the meetings, that the UAE, thanks to the vision of its wise leadership, based on openness to the world and the promotion of international cooperation in various development sectors, continues to enhance its international partnerships in the areas of intellectual property rights protection, and the development of its organizational and legislative systems, in a way that contributes to enabling innovators and creators, and consolidating the state’s position as a global center for the new economy.

His Excellency said: Our meetings today with a number of ministers, officials and representatives of international bodies concerned with the protection of intellectual property rights are a major station to expand the horizons of cooperation and exchange of experiences, in a way that contributes to upgrading the level of services provided to the rights owners and innovators, and enhances the flexibility and efficiency of intellectual property systems in the country, in line with the targets of sustainable economic development, indicating that the meetings focused on qualifying cadres And exchange experiences and enhance the legislation of intellectual property protection.

In detail, His Excellency Ben Touq held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Lisa Lee Pacosta, Minister of Justice and Digital Affairs in Estonia, where they discussed the opportunities for cooperation in the field of digital transformation of systems and services related to intellectual property, and the application of modern technologies in rights registration and examination, as His Excellency stressed the importance of exchanging experiences between the two sides in the field of developing digital policies supporting innovation.

In his meeting with His Excellency Luke Joe, the permanent undersecretary of the Ministry of Law in Singapore, His Excellency the Minister of Economy and Tourism discussed the best legislative and regulatory practices in the areas of intellectual property rights protection, ways to simplify procedures and improve the business environment, which contributes to enhancing the benefit of intellectual assets in supporting entrepreneurs and startups.

His Excellency reviewed in his meeting with Darren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the paths of joint cooperation between the two sides, and ways to build on them during the next stage to strengthen the intellectual property system in the country, and the importance of developing programs to build institutional and technical capabilities, and expanding the scope of cooperation in supporting digital transformation, enabling member states to develop flexible and comprehensive systems of intellectual property, and the importance of improving the frameworks Legislative and organizational with international standards, in order to enhance the protection and economy of creators’ rights.

His Excellency, Elisa Rodriguez Ortez, director of the Patent and Trademarks Office in Spain, also met with opportunities for cooperation in the fields of industrial ownership in light of the common visions between the two sides, and enhance the exchange of experiences in developing relevant digital policies and services.

The meeting focused on the importance of qualifying and preparing cadres, and intensifying training programs and awareness of the private sector, reflecting the eagerness of the two countries to develop quality partnerships that serve the innovation system for both.

His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq also met the Japanese Patent Office (JPO), where the two sides reviewed the latest technologies in the areas of intellectual property rights protection, especially patents, benefit models and industrial designs, and the benefit of modern digital solutions in developing examination and registration systems, as well as training national cadres, and building their capabilities in dealing with advanced intellectual property tools.

In his meeting with representatives of the International Trademarks Association (INTA), His Excellency discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the areas of brand protection, develop regulatory frameworks that guarantee registered marks rights, ensure compliance with international standards in enforcement of rights, educating the signs of the importance of protecting their assets, and developing effective tools to combat tradition and commercial fraud, and enhance the role of trademarks in supporting the competitiveness, growth and expansion of companies Externally.
