Abu Dhabi airports are established as a global axis for the movement of travelers in the first half 2025

Abu Dhabi airports, the operating company for the five commercial airports in the emirate, continues to establish its position as a major engine for economic growth and global connection, after it recorded a growth of two twenty Khanhi in the numbers of travelers for the seventeenth quarter in a row, in addition to achieving a strong performance in the movement of aircraft and air freight during the first half of this year 2025.
In the period from January 1 to June 30, 2025, Abu Dhabi airports received more than 15.8 million passengers, a noticeable increase of 13.1%, compared to the same period last year 2024.
Zayed International Airport, the main capital gate, played a pivotal role in this growth, as the number of passengers has reached 15.5 million passengers until the end of June of this year, which represents an increase of 13.2% on an annual basis. The achieved increase in aviation movement led to the support of this positive performance, as 133,533 flights were recorded through the five airports in the first half of 2025, which represents an increase of 9.2% over the same period last year. Zayed International Airport alone recorded 93,858 airlines, an increase of 11.4% compared to 84,286 flights in the first half 2024.
The expansion of the global destination network is an essential part of the growth of Abu Dhabi airports growth. In the first six months of this year, 16 new destinations were added, in addition to attracting a number of new airlines, including East China Airlines, which runs flights to Shanghai four times a week (with the start of daily operation in September), “Seycheller” six flights, and “Fly Sham” lines to Damascus.
The Indian company “Indigo” also strengthened its presence at Zayed International Airport, by launching flights to Madorai, Popanswar and Vishkabnam, to be the main portal of the company’s services in the Emirates.
“Despite the operational challenges that we faced in the first half of this year, our exceptional results reflect the elasticity of our network and the strength of the partnerships that lead our growth. Achieving positive growth over a period of 17 consecutive quarter reflects the commitment of our team members and their continuous efforts. This growth also confirms our operational flexibility. We are able to provide an exceptional flight experience, and to attract international investors.
The air freight sector at Abu Dhabi airports also witnessed a remarkable growth that reflects the escalating role of the emirate in World Trade. Where 344,795 tons of goods were carried out during the first six months of 2025, thanks to this support from strategic partnerships and expansion of infrastructure. Among the most prominent developments in this field, the joint agreement with JDP Jingdong Property, the infrastructure arm of the Chinese e -commerce giant JD.com, which will witness the development of an advanced facility over an area of 70,000 square meters, with the aim of meeting the increasing demand for e -commerce and specialized logistical shipping services in the Gulf countries and the Middle East and North Africa region.
The first half of the year 2025 witnessed a group of strategic achievements through Abu Dhabi airports, the most important of which is the completion of the rehabilitation work of Sir Bani Yas Airport, confirming the company’s commitment to developing the aviation infrastructure in the country, and supporting environmental tourism in the Al Dhafra region. Zayed Airport obtained the classification of “Three Pearls” within the “sustainability” program in the construction phase, and was also chosen as “the best airport in the world for the experience of the coming passengers” for the third year in a row by the International Airports Council (ACI), as part of the ASQ Quality Awards (ASQ) for the year 2024, which enhances its role as a global gateway to the capital Abu Dhabi.
At Al -Bateen Airport for Private Aviation, the partnership with the Canadian company “Bombardier” continued its development with the establishment of a special maintenance and service facility, expected to enhance Abu Dhabi’s position as a pioneering regional center in the services of maintenance, repair and renovation of aircraft. A memorandum of understanding has also been signed with the “Touqa Distribution” company to explore the application of future facilities technologies through the airport portfolio, in order to support the vision of Abu Dhabi airports towards innovation and sustainable development.
While Abu Dhabi airports continue to implement their long -term strategy, they focus on expanding their global partnerships, developing major infrastructure projects, and promoting sustainable innovation, as these factors combined play an active role in supporting efforts to diversify the economy in the UAE, and enhance their leadership in the global aviation sector.
