The ruler of Sharjah receives the Honorary President of the University

Sharjah, July 25 / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, won yesterday “Thursday” in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, President of Sharjah University, and Sheikha Badour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the American University in Sharjah, Medal of Honorary President of the University of Exter presented by the university for the first time in its history.

This came during the visit of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah to the University of Exeter, during which His Highness received the Medal from Sir Michael Barbar, the honorary president of the university and the unveiling of the Al -Qasimi Building project that will be built at the university on the initiative of His Highness and the corner of His Highness in the Library of the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, and the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research and the University of Exeter.

The granting of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, the Honorary President of the University of Exter, comes in honor of His Highness’s distinguished contributions to education and scientific research, in addition to His Highness’s distinguished relationship with the University of Exter, as His Highness is a pioneer in cultural, scientific, social and economic development, and played an important role in promoting cultural interaction and dialogue between countries and civilizations at local, regional and international levels.

His Highness said during his speech at the honoring ceremony held in the Red Hall at the University of Exeter: “I am very pleased to return today to the University of Exter, this prestigious institution that embraced me as a student more than forty years ago, which has since remained deeply rooted in my academic trip and my memory.”

His Highness expressed his gratitude for the close and fruitful cooperation with the University of Exter over the past decades. His Highness said: “I stand in front of you with deep gratitude to the fruitful road that we walked together, that way that we gathered in knowledge, partnership and common goals, and I feel a special pride towards the permanent cooperation that continued between the University Also to become a model for academic excellence, and at the forefront of this achievement, the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies stands, and it is a distinguished center that embraces the unity of the Arab world documents, and the Emirati group, which together represents a vital contribution to preserving and studying our cultural heritage.

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah pointed to academic partnerships with the University A strong academic in Earth science studies for university students, and at the same time the Sharjah Academy of Education has provided innovative programs in the field of special educational needs, benefiting from the long academic experience of the University of Xter and its ancient experience in comprehensive education.

His Highness explained that these initiatives reflect the common vision of investment in man and knowledge, which is the vision of continuing expansion, and the evidence for this is the Al Qasimi Building project at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at the university, which was unveiled today to reflect the joint commitment to building inspiring academic environments for future generations.

His Highness thanked and appreciated the leadership of the University of Exter and the faculty members and partners in it for its own honor, and for their continuous dedication to the service of education, research and global cooperation, calling for continuing to build bridges of understanding, discovery and progress together.

Dr. Lisa Roberts, President of the University of Exter, praised in her speech during the ceremony the vision of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, his leadership and his support for education, pointing to the extension of the influence of His Highness to the educational facilities that he contributed to its establishment and the partnerships that he strengthened with the university, and his inspiration for many scholars and students.

In her speech, Roberts dealt with the business model established by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah in all universities and higher education institutions in the Emirate of Sharjah and its great positive impact on education and its impact on upgrading societies at various levels.

She reviewed the historical relations that link His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah to the university since the eighties of the last century, which resulted in distinguished scientific programs and projects whose fruits appeared in the great cooperation between the universities of the Emirate of Sharjah, which was established and sponsored by His Highness, and between the University of Exter, which is very proud of these fruitful and ambitious relations and is looking to develop them in the future.

Martha Holden, a graduate of the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, delivered a speech on behalf of the students and graduates of the covenant, in which she expressed her sincere thanks and appreciation to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for his support, which had a great impact on her educational career and introduced her to different cultures and understanding the differences between dialects, which opened new horizons and helped her to delve into the Arabic language.

She described her experience at the university as an inspiration that made her continue her interest in the Arabic language more, even after graduation, praising in this regard with his support for her and her colleagues.

The honoring ceremony included an artistic presentation presented by a group of students of the University of Exeter, and a visual subject that dealt with the close relationship between His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and the University of Exeter since his studies and graduation from it in the year 1985, and the continuation of scientific and academic interaction and partnerships with the university until the day that witnesses the granting of the Honorary President of the University of Exeter.

His Highness received a memorial gift presented by Chancellor Ann Jobson, the mayor of the city of Exeter, in appreciation of his visit and his continuous support to the University of Exeter.

During his visit, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, during his visit to the Al -Qasimi Building project, which will be established at a generous initiative from His Highness at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, which His Highness had previously initiated at the University of Exter in 2001 in support of researchers and students and the provision of science sources, historical documents and references at an institute specialized for Arab and Islamic studies that enables them to conduct and document studies.

His Highness and the attendees know during several visual presentations on the details of the Al -Qasimi Building project, which included the architectural vision of the building, which is based on the building represents a distinctive scientific forum for students and students and reflects the Arab and Islamic scientific and scientific production, and it is in a wonderful engineering form that constitutes a real addition to the university, and the green spaces are distributed carefully as well as the places that provide forums for discussion and communication between the pioneers of the building, as included Offers are the facilities of the building consisting of halls, classrooms, gardens, offices and places of study, and services that will be provided to visitors, readers and researchers.

The books of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah have varied and reached 118 books in various fields of knowledge, and in each author reflected an insightful vision and enlightened thought that demonstrates the depth of his culture and the established faith, and His Highness’s books were translated into more than 20 live foreign languages, namely English, French, Chinese, Italian, Indian, Russian, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Malay, Mart. Bengali, Polish, Dutch, Romanian, Persian, Turkish, and Somali.

His Highness’s books are distinguished by the research depth and academic accuracy and reflects its great interest in the history of the Arabian Gulf, especially Sharjah and the Gulf in the modern era, and His Highness in the scientific investigation is based on the original documents preserved in the global archives.

The books of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi are a product of a long intellectual and historical march, which started since the eighties of the last century, when His Highness felt the need to correct the false accounts published by the colonial powers, and led to distorting the history of the Arabian Gulf, so his first book, “The Legend of Piracy in the Gulf” in 1985, was the beginning of the launch of a comprehensive documentary project based on the original documents of the British and Ottoman archives And French, and with the passage of years, his books expanded to include multiple aspects of the history of the Gulf.

His Highness also wrote his autobiography in a narrative work entitled “Self -narration”, in a manner that combines personal documentation and the national vision, while the transfer of history to the theater through more than twenty plays that reflects Arab issues and their civilized identity, and his books have evolved with time from historical responses to academic and theatrical works, to form in their entirety an integrated cultural project that combines the historical ruler and creative thinker.

During the library’s visit, His Highness reviewed a set of important and historical books, books and sources contained in the library, including the thesis presented by His Highness in the year 1985 to obtain a PhD in philosophy in history from the University of Exeter with an appreciation of excellence, which was titled “The Show of Arab Piracy in the Arabian Gulf between 1797 AD and 1820 AD”.

In the university building at the university, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairman of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Dr. Lisa Roberts, President of the University of Exeter, signed a cooperation agreement between the Council and the university to implement a program to train leaders in higher education institutions entitled: “The Community of the Leadership: Drawing the Future of Responsible Governance in Universities” which is an advanced and ambitious training program for transformation in executive education, designed in particular for the Council of Sharjah For higher education and scientific research.

The content of the program is in line with five main goals in line with the goals of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research, namely:

Development of strategic leadership capabilities, by providing university leaders with the skills and visions necessary to lead with courage and clarity in the rapidly changing higher education scene and enhance institutional governance, by encouraging the responsible administration of resources, decisions in transparency, and aligning the operations with the institution’s message and values and enhancing the culture of totalitarianism and excellence, by supporting the development of comprehensive academic environments based on values, setting the well -being of employees and success Students and the integrity of scientific research at the forefront of priorities in addition to enhancing the participation and influence of stakeholders, building the capabilities necessary for effective interaction with internal and external stakeholders, enhancing civil, social and global responsibilities for the university and encouraging contemplative and cooperative practice, by creating space for learning between peers, critical meditation, and dialogue between institutions, with the aim of inspiring innovation and common leadership.

On the sidelines of the signing of the agreement, a number of areas of cooperation and joint interest in the educational and academic affairs were discussed, and the results achieved of the cooperation of higher education institutions in the Emirate of Sharjah with the University of Exeter.
