Seoul intensifies her diplomatic moves to avoid imminent American fees

Seoul on July 27 / WAM / The President of the Seoul announced that it will intensify its diplomatic efforts through a series of high -level meetings in Washington next week, in an attempt to avoid imminent American customs duties that are scheduled to enter into force on the first of August.

The Korean news agency “Yonhap” reported that this announcement came after an emergency meeting held in Seoul, yesterday, Saturday, headed by the director of the Policy Office, Kim Young-Bayoub and National Security Adviser Wei Song-Alak, and with the participation of finance, industry and trade ministers, with the aim of coordinating a unified response before the deadline.

The ongoing negotiations in the United States aim to reduce the current 25%mutual fees, and to avoid potential additional fees for steel and Korean cars.

The Presidential Office indicated that the Minister of Finance and the Foreign Minister will meet with their American counterparts next week, adding that the two sides agreed to enhance cooperation in the shipbuilding sector, which Washington has shown great interest in.
