Cyber Security Council: More than 12 thousand penetrations across networks "Wi -Fi" In the Emirates since the beginning of the year

Abu Dhabi, August 24 / WAM / The Cyber Security Council warned of the UAE government of the grave dangers of the use of unreliable “Wi -Fi” networks, revealing the registration of more than 12 thousand penetrations across these networks in the country since the beginning of this year.

The council pointed out that this number constitutes approximately 35% of the total cybersecurity to the state, which confirms that the pirates and infiltrators target users through these networks that have turned into effective traps to steal passwords, bank details, and personal information.

The Council warned that the risks of unsafe use of unpaved open internet networks “Wi -Fi” poses a danger that may be a direct reason for leaking personal and financial information for users, which confirms the need to follow advanced protection measures, most notably the use of reliable VPN applications.

He explained that open internet users may be exposed to many risks, including what is known as the “man in the middle” attacks, as electronic pirates and fraudsters can read the sent data, record calls and convert users into fake sites and even intercept phone calls, in addition to installing malicious or spy programs in user devices without their knowledge.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency “WAM”, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Al -Kuwaiti, President of the Cyber Security Council of the UAE government, said that the UAE continues with the directives of the rational leadership its pioneering and continuous efforts to build a safe cyber space that protects users from the growing digital risks and keeps pace with accelerating technical developments within a comprehensive national vision to enhance confidence in the state’s digital system and enhance the culture of cybersecurity and raise awareness of the importance of safe browsing.

The Cyber Security Council explained to the UAE government that many users do not realize the volume of threats that can be caused by contact with free Wi -Fi networks, especially in public places such as cafes, airports and commercial centers, while these networks seem suitable in terms of speed and cost, they often do not believe in adequately making it an open square for fraud and electronic penetration activities.

The Cyber Security Council provided 3 major steps that each user should follow to stay safe while browsing the Internet on public networks, namely: using a reliable VPN application that encrypts the digital communication of the user, which makes it difficult for any party not authorized to intercept data, and activating the “safe browsing” feature in the browser to ensure that the suspicious sites are not accessed, as well as avoiding logging in sensitive accounts such as bank accounts or personal email, When using open Wi -Fi networks.

The council stressed that the use of a reliable VPN application not only guarantees privacy, but rather an effective tool for protecting digital identity in an interconnected world and an exhibition of repeated breakthroughs, pointing to the need for studied preventive steps, and stressed that awareness represents the first line of defense in the face of cybercrime.

It is worth noting that the Cyber Security Council launched a weekly awareness campaign within the cyber pulse initiative, and holds the second week of the campaign this year the slogan “Free Wi -Fi may reveal your personal data” with the aim of raising awareness of the ways to protect personal data and the dangers of using free Wi -Fi networks, and providing instructions for how to face various cyber threats, and the campaign targets individuals and institutions alike to increase cyber awareness and enhance flexibility Cyber culture.
