The International Organization for Migration calls for international support, while Yemen faces fatal floods

Abdul Sattar Isoyev, head of the International Migration Organization Mission in Yemen, said that the floods were another devastating blow to the families who have already lost a lot, “Leave people again without homes, property, or a sense of safety. They need protection and aid and above all they need the international community to stand with them.”

The organization stated, in a press statement, that the current crisis is similar to the effects of the devastating floods that occurred last year and caused widespread damage and loss of life. She drew attention to the intensification and frequency of storms this year, revealing the impact of climate change on deepening weaknesses throughout Yemen and further pushing societies to the crisis.

The organization said that the effects are catastrophic on families suffering from years of conflict, poverty and limited basic services. Hundreds of people may be left without shelter, food, or clean water and medical care, while floods, storms destroyed homes, roads and infrastructure. Among the most affected governorates, Ibb, Sana’a, Marib, Al -Hodeidah and Taiz.

The International Organization for Migration, in coordination with local authorities and partners, provides emergency shelter, water, sanitation and other basic supplies. As the inventory of relief materials is depleted, the organization said that every delay in financing its efforts threatens life -saving aid.

The International Organization for Migration called on donors to expand the scope of support urgently to prevent further displacement, human losses and deterioration in Yemen.

While the date of the United Nations Climate Conference is close to the end of this year, the organization said that Yemen’s experience is a blatant ticket that the countries affected by the conflicts stand on the front lines of the climate crisis and cannot be left behind the knees.
