Its 4.7 billion expelled last year … an unprecedented flow of goods on the European market

Brussels on August 28 / WAM / The European Union countries last year witnessed an unprecedented flow of goods, as the number of parcels received 4.7 billion, an increase of 353% compared to 2022, which made the percentage of cargo examination decrease sharply from 203 to 82 operations that are achieved only per million products, while 13 products were rejected out of every million as inconsistencies or dangerous compared to 20 in 2022.

The European Commission revealed in a new report issued today that the number of products that are subject to examination when entering the European Union has become very limited, as only 82 products are verified out of every million incoming commodities, despite the significant increase in examination operations compared to previous years, as customs authorities in member states carried out 392,529 searches in 2024 compared to 305,143 operations in 2022.

The number of violating products that was intercepted from 29,798 products increased in 2022 to 64,322 products last year.

Health products topped the list of non -conforming goods, but the tremendous expansion of e -commerce led to an increase in the flow of parcels and goods.

In light of these results, the Commission called for strengthening control operations and has already held a high -level meeting with customs officials, stressing the importance of digital transformation and intensifying cooperation with market control authorities, and stressed that the establishment of the European Customs Authority and the data center to be approved within a comprehensive reform of the European Customs Union will constitute an added value in the field of risk analysis and exchange of information with other agencies
