In Egypt, the Court of Cassation refuses to stab an artist in the case of stealing paintings

The Court of Cassation, today, Monday, September 22, 2025, rejected the Egyptian plastic artist Ghada Wali on a decision to fined 10,000 pounds in the case of stealing the paintings of the Russian artist Georgy Crosov and put them at the subway stations.
The details of the case go back to the year 2022, when Ghada Wali contracted with the subway company to implement drawings on the walls of the Girls College station, so Korwasov paintings were used without his permission. The Russian artist announced on his official Facebook page his dissatisfaction and a lawsuit.
In 2024, the court punished the artist with 6 months imprisonment, a fine of 10 thousand pounds, and a temporary compensation 100 thousand pounds, but after the appeal, the sentence was canceled, and the decision remained fine and compensation. The court emphasizes that the incident represents the infringement of the financial and literary right of the artist.
