Record levels for gold and silver today support demand

New York, 9 October / WAM / Gold prices stabilized today above $4,000 per ounce, while silver reached a record high level, supported by increasing investor demand and a shortage in supply, as it broke the $50 per ounce barrier for the first time.
Spot gold fell 0.5 percent to $4,019.30 an ounce by 1607 GMT.
US gold futures for December delivery fell 0.9 percent to $4,035.30.
