Cooperation between"Secretariat of the National Committee to Combat Money Laundering" And the University of Birmingham – Dubai

Abu Dhabi, October 20 / WAM / The General Secretariat of the National Committee to Combat Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism and the Financing of Proliferation announced today the signing of an academic cooperation agreement with the University of Birmingham – Dubai Branch, to develop specialized educational and training programs that contribute to building national capabilities in the field of combating financial crimes.

The initiative embodies the vision of the General Secretariat to consolidate the UAE’s position as one of the world’s leading countries in the field of combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism, and is consistent with the objectives of the National Strategy for Combating Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism and Financing of Arms Proliferation 2024-2027, in a way that enhances the integration of national efforts with the best international academic practices, increases the country’s capabilities in confronting emerging and complex financial challenges, and consolidates its commitment. by international standards, and contribute to the sustainability of its economic and financial security.

His Excellency Hamid Al Zaabi, Secretary-General and Vice Chairman of the National Committee, said that investing in human capital is the basis for building an effective national system capable of combating financial crimes, stressing that, through this partnership, work is being done to develop high-quality educational programs that keep pace with global developments and enhance the ability of national cadres to face emerging challenges, especially in light of the rapid technical transformations in the fields of financial technology and artificial intelligence.

He explained that building specialized national competencies who possess deep knowledge and professional readiness is one of the main goals of the National Strategy 2024-2027, stressing that the partnership with the University of Birmingham represents a pivotal step towards preparing a generation of technically qualified professionals capable of protecting the integrity of the financial system and keeping pace with developments in cross-border financial crime.

For her part, Yousra Mazoughi, Chief Academic Officer of the University of Birmingham – Dubai, stressed their commitment to supporting national initiatives by providing an advanced educational environment that contributes to preparing competencies capable of facing future challenges in the financial security sector.

She explained that issues of combating money laundering and terrorist financing represent the focus of increasing global attention, especially in light of the dynamic financial environment of the UAE.

Mazoughi expressed their aspiration, through this cooperation, to prepare graduates capable of dealing critically and ethically with these issues, based on scientific research and advanced applied practices.

This partnership comes within a series of strategic cooperation concluded by the General Secretariat with leading academic and research institutions in the country, including the Trends Center for Research and Consulting, Rabdan Academy, and Abu Dhabi Global Market Academy, within an integrated vision aimed at enhancing the sustainability of the economic security of the UAE by preparing a qualified national base capable of effectively addressing future financial challenges.
