Sharjah hosts the General Assembly of"Wayba"

Sharjah, October 22 / WAM / Sharjah hosted the General Assembly and new elections for the Steering Committee of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WIPA), in a step that confirms the emirate’s position as a regional and global center for investment dialogue and shaping the future of a sustainable economy.

Representatives of investment promotion agencies from various countries of the world participated in the meeting to discuss the strategic directions of the Association and approve its leadership structure for the period 2025–2027.

The work of the General Assembly resulted in the election of the “Direct Investment Promotion Authority” in the State of Kuwait to chair the Association for the period 2025-2027, represented by Mr. Muhammad Yousef Yacoub, Acting Director General, while the Vice-President positions were won by the “Export and Investment Center in the Dominican Republic” (ProDominicana) and the “Invest in Korea” Authority.

As for the position of Regional Director for Sub-Saharan Africa, the Ghana Investment Promotion Center won, the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency won the presidency of the Middle East and North Africa region, while the Pakistan Investment Board received the leadership of the South Asia region, and the Invest in Fiji Authority was elected to represent the Oceania region.

As for Europe, Enterprise Greece won the management of the European region, the Investment Authority of Cyprus won the management of Eastern Europe, while the Confederation of National Industries of Honduras took over the management of the Central America and Caribbean region.

Ismail Ershahin, Executive Director of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WIPA), stressed that holding the General Assembly in Sharjah represented a strategic milestone in the association’s journey, as the meeting of international leaders in the UAE provided an ideal platform to unify visions and expand partnerships between investment promotion agencies around the world.

He said that this event allowed us to work on laying the foundations for a new phase of international cooperation and strengthening the role of the Association in supporting sustainable investments that lead the positive transformation in global economies.

The outcomes of the General Assembly are directly reflected in the agenda of the “World Investment Conference” 2025, which is organized by the Association in cooperation with the “Sharjah Investment Forum”. The two events, organized by the Sharjah Foreign Direct Investment Office (Invest in Sharjah) in partnership with the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WIPA) and the Ministry of Investment in the United Arab Emirates, witness the participation of more than 130 international speakers from Senior officials, experts and investors in more than 160 specialized dialogue sessions.

The forum’s sessions address the future of foreign direct investments, the digital economy, and the role of innovation in empowering investment promotion agencies and enhancing the sustainability of global economic growth.
