The UAE participates in the meeting of the Committee of Undersecretaries of the Ministries of Transport and Communications in the Cooperation Countries in Kuwait

KUWAIT, October 23, 2018 (WAM) – The UAE, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, participated in the twenty-seventh meeting of the Committee of Undersecretaries of the Ministries of Transport and Communications in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, which was hosted by the State of Kuwait yesterday with the participation of official delegations from various GCC countries, and the presence of representatives of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
The UAE delegation was headed by His Excellency Sheikh Nasser Al Qasimi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Infrastructure Regulation Sector at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.
During the meeting, it was emphasized to support Gulf efforts aimed at enhancing integration in the transport sector, which contributes to achieving sustainable development and consolidating economic and social interdependence between the GCC countries.
His Excellency Sheikh Nasser Al Qasimi pointed out that the transport sector in the GCC countries is witnessing a qualitative shift driven by ambitious national visions and strategies, the most prominent of which are projects to connect the Gulf to the railway network, and the adoption of smart and sustainable transport systems that enhance efficiency, reduce emissions, and keep pace with the region’s aspirations towards a more sustainable and prosperous future. The meeting’s agenda included discussion of 25 items, which included following up on the implementation of previous meeting decisions, reviewing the reports of technical committees in the fields of land and sea transport, in addition to discussing ways to enhance international cooperation with relevant regional and global organizations.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants stressed the importance of continuing joint work to unify policies and legislation and exchange experiences, in a way that strengthens the position of the GCC countries as a leading global center in the fields of transport and logistics services.
