Germany culls 400,000 birds to combat the outbreak of bird flu


About 30 commercial poultry farmers in Germanyto cull about 400,000 chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys after the outbreak of the virus Bird influenza "H5N1″, with the aim of limiting its spread.

The largest losses were recorded in the states of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Brandenburg, where nearly 150,000 were executed. A laying hen, while an additional 130,000 birds will be culled in Merkisch-Oderland due to new infections.

The German Friedrich-Loeffler Institute indicated that the bird migration season in the fall accelerates the spread of the virus, and that the viral load from infected birds and their carriers is very high. The institute called on citizens to avoid approaching dead wild birds and poultry farms directly to avoid indirect infection.
