"Sharjah consultant" Discusses the policy of the Roads and Transport Authority in the emirate

Sharjah, 27th October / WAM / The Advisory Council of the Emirate of Sharjah discussed during its second session of the third regular session of the eleventh legislative term, which was held today at its headquarters under the chairmanship of His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, the policy of the Roads and Transport Authority in the emirate, within the framework of the Council’s keenness to develop the transportation and infrastructure system, enhance traffic safety standards, and support institutional integration among the concerned authorities in line with the aspirations of the leadership. Al Rashida towards continuing to achieve sustainable urban development and an integrated quality of life in the Emirate of Sharjah.

The session was attended by Engineer Yousef Khamis Al-Othmani, Chairman of the Roads and Transport Authority, Abdulaziz Muhammad Al-Jarwan, Director of the Authority for Transportation Affairs, Engineer Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Al-Hajri, Director of the Authority for Road Affairs, Dr. Abdullah Ahmed Al Ali, Director of the Road Maintenance Department, and Muhammad Ali Al-Zaabi, Director of the Legal Affairs Department and Acting Director of the Traffic Toll Gates Department.

Engineer Youssef Khamis Al Othmani said that the Roads and Transport Authority, through national competencies, works according to a strategy based on innovation and quality and derives its vision and strategy from His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and the close follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, Chairman of the Executive Council.

He pointed out that the authority continues to implement strategic projects to expand the road network and develop the mass transportation system in partnership with the government and private sectors to keep pace with the rapid growth in the emirate, as His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah stressed the importance of linking the city of Sharjah to its various regions, such as Khor Fakkan, Kalba, Dibba Al Hisn, and the cities and regions of the central region through major road projects, such as Khor Fakkan Road, Maliha Road, Kalba Road, and Al Dhaid Road.

He reviewed the most prominent development projects implemented by the Authority, the challenges it faced, and the solutions that were adopted during the period from 2022 to 2025. During the presentation, he also presented statistics that reflect the extent of the efforts made in this field.

Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani said in his response to members’ inquiries that the authority continues to improve the road environment by taking advantage of modern technology and expanding the infrastructure in a way that suits future challenges and changes, pointing to the importance of achieving the spirit of integration and harmony and constant work to raise the efficiency and readiness of roads at the emirate level in implementation of the Sharjah government’s strategy aimed at improving the transport and communications sectors and the road sector, whether the main axes or Streets and their associated services and facilities contribute to supporting and enhancing comfort and quality of life.

Regarding the most prominent road and infrastructure projects completed by the Authority during the years 2022-2025, Al-Othmani explained that the total road paving projects completed for main roads reached 243 km, 403 km on residential internal roads, 68.5 km on commercial internal roads, 51.5 km on industrial internal roads, 39 km on mosque roads and parking lots, 11 school roads and parking lots, and 73 traffic improvement projects. A signaling system was also implemented. Smart traffic lights linked to the traffic control room, which allows monitoring traffic and adjusting the timing of signals to achieve greater flow within the green traffic system.

He explained that the number of passengers in 2024 reached 51 thousand passengers, and in 2025 so far 43 thousand passengers. The total number of public transportation lines reached 13 lines, the total transport lines between cities 33 lines, the number of air-conditioned awnings 37, the number of main stations 5 stations, and the number of stopping points 546 lines. The percentage of citizens in the fields of engineering and inspection reached 91%, and the number of cruises between the emirates of Sharjah and Dubai reached on weekends. There are 80 flights per week and 10 flights on normal days.
