The Security Council condemns the Rapid Support Militia and reiterates its rejection of the establishment of any parallel government in Sudan

 At its meeting today, Thursday, the UN Security Council condemned the RSF attack on El Fasher and the crimes committed against the civilian population. It renewed its refusal to establish a parallel government in the areas controlled by the RSF.

A statement issued by the Security Council stated that its members are calling for an immediate cessation of fighting and calming the situation in El Fasher and its environs, as they fear the spread of famine and severe food insecurity, and they urged the RSF. The statement added that the members of the Security Council condemned the RSF militia’s attack on El Fasher and its devastating impact on the civilian population.

 

It continued that the members of the Security Council referred to Resolution 2736 (2024), which calls on the RSF to lift the siege of El Fasher, and calls for an immediate cessation of fighting, And to calm the situation in and around El Fasher, where famine and severe food insecurity are increasing, they urged the RSF “strongly to implement the provisions of this resolution.” The increasing risk of large-scale atrocities, including ethnically motivated atrocities.

 

According to the statement, the members called for all perpetrators of violations to be held accountable, and they also called for the protection of civilians and adherence to their obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law, and the fulfillment of resolution 2736 (2024), as well as adherence to their obligations under the Jeddah Declaration, and respect and protection of humanitarian workers, their headquarters and their assets. In accordance with their obligations under international law.

 

The members of the Security Council also called on everyone to allow safe and unimpeded humanitarian access and facilitate it in a manner consistent with international law. This is to protect civilians and provide safe passage for those trying to leave the city. They stressed that the priority is for the parties to resume talks to reach a permanent ceasefire and a comprehensive and inclusive political process owned by the Sudanese, according to the statement.

 

The members of the Security Council urged all member states to refrain from external interference that seeks to fuel conflict and instability, support efforts for lasting peace, adhere to their obligations under international law, and implement relevant Security Council resolutions, including the resolution 2791 (2025).

 

The members of the Security Council unequivocally affirmed their firm commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Sudan. In this regard, the Security Council affirmed its rejection of the establishment of a parallel governing authority in the areas controlled by the Rapid Support Militia, according to the statement.
