Haiti declares 3 days of mourning for the victims of Hurricane Melissa

The Haitian government on Sunday declared three days of national mourning starting today, in the wake of Hurricane Melissa, which claimed at least 30 lives in the Caribbean country due to floods and landslides, according to civil protection authorities.
The government also declared a state of emergency for three months in several regions.
The hurricane also struck Jamaica, Cuba and the Bahamas. In Jamaica, Melissa struck with full force, leaving at least 28 people dead, according to initial official reports.
The Jamaican Ministry of Culture said it would organize charity concerts to raise money for reconstruction.
The reggae musicians are scheduled to perform “I Love Jamaica” concerts, starting on November 14 in Kingston, followed by concerts in London, New York, Toronto and South Florida.
The full program has not been announced yet.
“As we have done so many times before, we turn to our music, our reggae, which has proven to be a healing balm and antidote in times of trouble and distress, not just for Jamaicans, but for the world,” Culture Minister Olivia Grange said on Instagram.
