DUBAI, 5 November / WAM / The activities of the eleventh edition of Dubai Design Week were officially launched today, under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairwoman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture).
The event, supported by Dubai Culture and in strategic partnership with the Dubai Design District of TECOM Group, witnesses the participation of more than 1,000 designers, architects and innovators from more than 50 countries.
The events will take place across Dubai Design District, offering a rich, multidisciplinary program covering architecture, interior design and products, enhancing Dubai’s position as a global platform for creative dialogue and a meeting point for global talent.
Khadija Al Bastaki, Senior Vice President of TECOM Group for Dubai Design District, confirmed that the district is full of innovative cards this week that reflect the momentum of the design sector in Dubai.
She pointed out that this partnership is in line with the “Design Sector Strategy 2033”, and this year witnesses the announcement of the winner of the first edition of the “Dubai Design District Awards”, and the launch of the “Regional Architecture Forum” in cooperation with the Royal Institute of British Architects (Gulf Branch).
Natasha Carella, Director of Dubai Design Week, explained that this year’s edition focuses on supporting projects with cultural roots and promoting global exchange, to reaffirm the role of design as a common language for a more interconnected future.
The Downtown Design Exhibition returns (from November 5 to 9) as a major event, hosting in The Forum an elite group of international design icons, including Tom Dixon, Marcel Wanders, Lee Broom, and David Hicks, in addition to prominent regional names.
Among the notable events, the “Marine Edges Tales” project (Marjil Platform – Bahrain) won the “Abwab” initiative, and the Dubai-based designer Oweremi Wanziken won the first edition of the “Dubai Design District Awards”, receiving a financial prize worth 100 thousand dirhams and opportunities for professional mentorship.
The week also includes the “Dubai Design Week Market” on November 8 and 9, which includes more than 90 local and regional brands, in addition to advanced workshops in the “Creators Space.”
