ABU DHABI, 7 November / WAM / Englishmen Tommy Fleetwood and Aaron Ray caught the spotlight on the second day of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship 2025, after they presented an outstanding performance at the Yas Links course on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, placing them at the top of the joint standings at 14 strokes under par at the end of the second day of the 20th edition of the tournament, which is considered one of the events of the “Rolex Series”, and part One of the final qualifiers for the DB World Tour, which continues until next Sunday, organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the DB World Tour.
Fleetwood, ranked fifth in the world and champion of the 2017 and 2018 editions, scored 6 under-par on the second day of the tournament, while Ray, ranked 30th, scored 8 under-par, putting the two players equal in the lead and the exciting competition for the title continues.
The 20th edition of the tournament, which attracts the best 72 players in the “Race to Dubai” classification for this season, confirmed that the competition for the title will be intense among the world’s stars, with two players at the top of the standings after the end of the second day, and 3 players in runner-up who achieved 12 strokes under par, and they are the Englishman Andy Sullivan, the Danish Nikolai Hooggaard, and the South African Richard Stern, and 4 players in third place, the Irishman Shane Lowry. The champion of the 2019 edition, the Spaniard Alejandro Del Rey, the Japanese Keita Nakajima, and the other Spaniard Nacho Olivera, each of whom has 11 strokes under par.
World number two, Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy, top of the standings and holder of the “Race to Dubai” title, is still close to the front despite being in 20th place, after he ended the second day with 4 strokes under par, leaving him with 8 strokes under par before the start of the third day tomorrow.
As for Aaron Ray, he started the day with a special start that pushed him strongly to the top, then he continued his brilliance with a birdie from 30 feet on the sixth hole, and others on the seventh and eleventh, before he ended his round by scoring two birdies in a row on the 17th and 18th holes, reaching 14 strokes under par.
