"Sharjah Arts" Choose the first group for the program "Resident artist"

Sharjah, February 14 / WAM / The Sharjah Art Foundation announced the selection of the first group of the “Artist in Residence” program for the years 2025-2026, after receiving about 2,400 applications from 126 countries, as part of its international call for emerging and dedicated artists to participate in research and production residencies in Sharjah.

The program provides participants with a creative environment to support the development of new projects and enhance artistic dialogue with curators, in addition to interacting with the local and regional cultural environment. The selected artists will reside at “Beit Obaid Al Shamsi” in Sharjah and “Kalba Ice Factory” from November 2025 to January 2026, while the second group will be announced in February 2026.

The group includes: Maitha Abdullah (UAE), Afra Ahmed (Yemen), Daria Goncharova (Russia), Fatima Kazemi (Iran), Hannity Goldux (Jordan/Germany), Jim Jasper Lompira and Joy Alexis Singh (Philippines), and Mila Palzhieva (Buryatia/Russia), and their fields range from painting, sculpture, video, and installation works. Maitha Abdullah draws inspiration from folklore in her work, Afra Ahmed explores notions of homeland after displacement, Daria Goncharova fuses civil engineering and social criticism, and Fatima Kazemi examines collective grief and subcultures.

Hennity and Goldox work on geopolitical themes, while Milla Palziva focuses on the relationship between nature and memory, and Lompira and Singh explore spirituality through the moving image, and Singh received the 2024 Prince Claus Award.
