The head of the Drug Authority on a field tour to follow up on the readiness to implement the drug tracking system

 

Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi, Chairman of the Egyptian Medicine Authority, made a field visit to the Orchidia Pharmaceutical Industries Factory in Obour City, in order to monitor the level of readiness to implement the drug tracking system on various production lines, within the framework of implementing the comprehensive plan for digital transformation.

The visit is a reflection of the Egyptian Medicine Authority’s keenness to ensure a sustainable and effective application of the tracking system, as it is one of the most important modern regulatory tools that support the state’s efforts in controlling the drug market. Al-Masry and enhancing the efficiency of monitoring the pharmaceutical supply chain and ensuring that the patient receives safe and effective medicine.

Al-Ghamrawi began his visit with a comprehensive inspection tour within the various manufacturing departments of the factory, which included the production lines for pharmaceutical preparations that are produced in the factory.

During the tour, the Chairman of the Authority and the accompanying delegation were briefed on the mechanisms for coding packages at the unit level (Unit Level Coding), where they reviewed the digital printing systems linked to the Data Matrix used in coding each pharmaceutical package individually, which supports the possibility of Tracking it through the stages of production, transportation and distribution.

 In addition to the printing systems for drug tracking, where the working of the printers used was reviewed and their compliance with the technical requirements approved by the Egyptian Medicines Authority was reviewed.

 The head of the authority also followed up on the mechanism of linking the individual package to the shipment and then the various higher assembly units, according to a serial system that guarantees integrated tracking until the preparation reaches the patient.

And during the technical presentation presented by officials The factory explained that Orchidia already applies the coding and tracking system to all production lines and produced packages, in accordance with national and international requirements, including informational linkage between the factory and the Drug Authority system, ensuring the recording of real-time data for products traded in the market.

They also confirmed that the application of the tracking system contributed directly to increasing the factory’s export capacity to markets that require coding and tracking requirements, which helped open new markets in Europe, Asia and Africa as a result of meeting traceability requirements.

During the visit, Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi stated that the drug tracking system is a strategic and pivotal step in tightening control over the drug market. 

It is one of the most important digital transformation projects in the Egyptian pharmaceutical sector.

 It is an essential support for protecting the Egyptian patient by preventing illegal practices and the leakage of non-conforming preparations.

He stressed that the Egyptian Drug Authority continues to carry out periodic field visits to factories. And companies to verify the readiness of implementing the drug tracking system according to the established timetables.

It is noteworthy that the Orchidia Pharmaceutical Industries factory in Obour City is located on an area of 6,000 square meters and has 8 production lines for eye medications such as drops, single-dose drops, ointments, and lens disinfection solutions, and its current production is approximately 103 million units annually.

The company exports to 40 countries, especially in the Middle East and Africa, It is opening new markets in Europe and the Commonwealth countries, where the company owns more than 100 registered and traded pharmaceutical products. 

Participating in the visit from the Egyptian Medicine Authority was Dr. Yass Rajai, Assistant to the Chairman of the Authority for Media Affairs and Investment Support and Supervisor of the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Care, Brigadier General Mohamed Tantawi, Advisor to the Chairman of the Authority for Digital Transformation, Dr. Amira Mahjoub, Head of the Central Administration for Inspection of Pharmaceutical Institutions, and Dr. Osama. Hatem, Assistant to the Chairman of the Authority for Policy Affairs and International Cooperation and Supervisor of the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Policies and Market Support.

The visit comes within a series of measures aimed at ensuring the actual implementation of the system at the level of all companies operating in the local market.
