Kate Middleton supports maternal mental health

Princess of Wales Kate Middleton stressed the importance of introducing the psychological difficulties that may accompany motherhood from pregnancy until after birth, and explained that “this stage includes profound experiences that are often not told.”

The Maternal Mental Health Alliance Foundation shared, via Instagram, a touching message from Kate, on the occasion of the launch of its new exhibition dedicated to presenting the stories and experiences of mothers in the field of mental health. The Princess of Wales, Royal Patron of the Foundation, said: “The Maternal Mental Health Alliance continues to support the voices of women facing mental health challenges before and after birth. Their new photography exhibition also reveals the hidden aspects of mental health during the journey of motherhood.”

She added, “The exhibition documents the experiences of ten women who experienced varying feelings of pain, joy, and resilience,” and stressed that “their courage in sharing their stories highlights human strength and fragility at the same time, and that it is unacceptable for any woman to go through a perinatal experience without support.”

She noted that “the initiative reflects the foundation’s primary goal: to ensure that every family in the United Kingdom has access to appropriate psychological care before, during and after birth.”

She continued, “The stories of mothers and fathers prove that it is possible to overcome mental health difficulties in the perinatal stage, and that every story is important, and every voice is capable of bringing about positive change.” (Erm News)
