Sadness in the artistic community… The death of the artist Bayouna at the age of 73

The death of the famous Algerian artist Baya Bouzar, known as “Bayouna”, at the age of 73, sparked a state of sadness and shock in artistic circles locally and in the Arab world, after a long struggle with lung cancer that began in 2016.

Close sources explained that Bayouna’s health had deteriorated in recent days as a result of the lack of oxygen reaching the brain, which put her in a critical stage that ended with her death in Beni Messous Hospital in the Algerian capital.

Bayouna’s artistic career, which spanned more than fifty years, combined acting, singing, dancing, theater and television.

She began her journey as a singer of popular and metropolitan melodies at weddings and parties, before she had a real breakthrough in cinema through the movie “The Big House” in 1973, directed by Mustafa Badie, then the movie “Laila and the Others” in 1977.

The late woman excelled in comedic roles that cemented her name in the public’s memory, most notably the television series “Nas Mallah City” by director Jaafar Qassem, in addition to Tunisian works such as “My Dear Sister-in-Law” and “The Millionaire,” and modern Algerian works such as “Akhw Al-Banat.”

She also left her mark on the stage through prominent roles in plays such as “Electra” by Sophocles, and “La Celestine,” where she played the title role.

On the singing front, Bayouna released her first music album, “Rad Zone,” in 2001, which included 10 songs, then the album, “Blonde in the Casbah,” in 2006, responding to a suggestion from a French producer after her appearance in the movie “Madame Osman’s Harem.” (Arm News)
