Sharjah consultant discusses enhancing parliamentary cooperation with "Duma" Russian

Moscow, November 26 / WAM / The delegation of the Consultative Council of the Emirate of Sharjah discussed ways to consolidate cooperation with the Russian State Duma in parliamentary fields and exchange legislative experiences that serve the future development directions of both sides.

This came during the visit of the Advisory Council delegation, headed by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Council, to the State Duma in the Russian capital, Moscow.

During its visit, the delegation met with Duma Speaker Alexei Shaposhnikov, his deputy Stepan Orlov, and heads of Duma committees, who expressed their deep welcome to this visit, which embodies the strength of Emirati-Russian relations.

During their visit, the delegation viewed an exhibition of rare documents and paintings that tell the story of local government in Moscow over two hundred years, which gave them the opportunity to explore the ancient legacy of parliamentary life in the Russian capital.

The Speaker of the Duma reviewed its organizational structure, which consists of 45 representatives elected for a period of five years and works through 15 specialized committees covering all aspects of life, noting the adoption of technology in its work, as it was the first parliament in the world to move to working completely remotely while maintaining legislative controls in May 2020.

He stressed Russia’s keenness to build strategic relations with the UAE for more than fifty years in various fields, sign agreements and build a qualitative partnership. This strong partnership is the result of the vision of the wise leaderships in both countries, which sought to enhance economic, investment and cultural cooperation and opened new horizons for cooperation in the fields of advanced energy, modern technology and sustainability, which made the UAE a major trading partner for Russia.

His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi stressed the Advisory Council’s keenness to enhance cooperation with its counterpart in Moscow, as the similarity in parliamentary tasks between the two councils constitutes fertile ground for building strategic partnerships, proposing the formation of joint working teams to focus on developing cultural and cognitive aspects in addition to examining pressing issues such as sustainability and climate change, and it is possible to benefit from climate integration between the environments of the two countries.

The visit concluded with the exchange of commemorative shields, which represented a symbol of deep-rooted friendship and an aspiration for a promising cooperative future in a scene that reflected the historical depth of Emirati-Russian relations and the common desire to strengthen relations between Sharjah and Moscow to broader horizons.
