The official Syrian news agency said that 13 people were killed, including women and children, as a result of an Israeli attack targeting the town of Beit Jinn, southwest of Damascus.
The Ministry of Health in the Damascus countryside reported that a number of injured people were transferred to Al-Mouwasat Hospital and Qatana, noting that there were critical cases, while the Syrian media spoke of families trapped under the rubble and the displacement of dozens of families from the town.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry accused Israel of carrying out a “criminal attack” Through bombardment by drones and artillery, and the attack was considered a “war crime.” It resulted in the destruction of homes and the displacement of residents..
Damascus called on the Security Council and the United Nations to take action to stop the “repeated Israeli attacks,” stressing its right to defend Syrian territory.
For its part, the Israeli army said that its forces carried out an operation to arrest “wanted persons belonging to the Islamic Group organization,” and added that the forces were exposed to gunfire during the operation, which led to the injury of six soldiers, three of whom were seriously injured.
The Deputy United Nations Envoy to Syria, Najat Rushdi, condemned the attack and described it as a “dangerous violation of Syria’s sovereignty,” warning of its repercussions on regional stability, and calling for respect for the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
