The death toll from floods in Indonesia, Thailand and Sri Lanka has risen to 1,100 people


The death toll exceeded Floodsand landslides in various parts of Asia (1,100) people today, while the authorities published in Heavy rain on the entire island of Sri Lanka, large parts of Indonesian Sumatra, southern Thailand, and northern Malaysia during the past week.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said: "The government’s priority now is how to send the necessary aid immediately, especially focusing on isolated areas"

Sumatra Island

Floods and landslides killed at least (593) people, according to a tally published by the National Disaster Management Authority.

The Authority indicated that (468) people are still missing, and more than (578) thousand residents of three provinces on the island of Sumatra, located in the western part of the archipelago, have been evacuated.

For its part, The Sri Lankan government appealed to the international community to provide assistance, and used military helicopters to reach those stranded as a result of the floods and landslides resulting from Cyclone Ditwah.

Declaring a state of emergency

Sri Lankan officials reported today that at least (355) people had been killed, while (366) were still missing, and President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who declared a state of emergency to deal with the disaster, pledged to repair the damage.

In Thailand, floods resulting from rain killed at least 176 people in the south of the country, making it one of the most violent floods in the country during the past ten years, according to what the authorities announced.

The government launched relief measures, but was criticized for its response to the floods.
