The death toll from floods and The catastrophic landslides that struck Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand last week left more than 1,300 dead, and about a thousand missing.

Days of heavy monsoon rains flooded vast areas, leaving thousands of people trapped.

The authorities said: "The death toll reached at least 1,347 people (753 in Indonesia, 410 in Sri Lanka, 181 in Thailand, and three in Malaysia)"

The United Nations is communicating closely with the authorities in the four countries, expressing its full readiness to support relief and response efforts, and stressing that the United Nations teams are at the disposal of governments to provide the necessary assistance.
