Al-Sisi congratulates the Egyptian national team on achieving its first victory in the World Cup

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi congratulated his country’s football team and its fans, following its victory over the New Zealand national team 3-1 in the second round of the Group G competitions of the 2026 World Cup, a result that gave the “Pharaohs” their first victory in the history of their participation in the finals.

Al-Sisi said, in a post on his official Facebook account, that the victory represents a special moment for Egyptian football, adding: “I congratulate the Egyptian national team and the fans of our great people on achieving the first victory in the history of Egypt’s participation in the World Cup competitions, with an honorable performance that embodied the determination, will and persistence of the people of the country.”

The president’s congratulations came after the remarkable performance presented by the Egyptian team, which earned three valuable points, raising its score to four points at the top of Group Seven, enhancing its chances of reaching the next round of the tournament.

The victory received widespread attention within Egypt, as it was a historic achievement for the national team in the World Cup finals, after a performance characterized by tactical discipline and offensive effectiveness against the New Zealand team.
