«Red Sea International Film Festival».. Fifth session of «Love of Cinema»

In its fifth session, which begins tomorrow, Thursday, the fourth of December, and continues until the thirteenth of the same month, the “Red Sea International Film Festival” celebrates the presentation of the best productions of Arab and international cinema, in the “historic town” in the city of Jeddah (the Bride of the Red Sea).
The festival’s cinematic program consists of various categories and sections of films from all over the world, starting with hidden cinematic treasures, restored with the latest display technologies, and ending with films by promising talents.
The “Festival” also hosts an elite group of artistic talents, filmmakers, and industry professionals from the Arab world and the rest of the world through its platform, in addition to many film competitions in the long and short categories, while hosting concerts, and hosting many seminars and workshops aimed at supporting, developing and encouraging emerging talents.

The fifth session of the “Festival” will be held under the slogan “For the Love of Cinema,” which is the slogan that the “Festival” administration defined as “the love that brings together storytellers and the audience under one roof, enriches our customs and traditions, and enhances our celebration of new talents. Rather, it is the love that travels cinema lovers on journeys across cultures and generations.”

The management of the Red Sea Film Festival chose the film “The Giant” by artist Amir Al-Masry. To be the opening film of its fifth session, by British-Indian director Rawan Athale, it tells the inspiring story of the British-Yemeni boxing champion, Prince Naseem “Naz” Hamed. The opening film of the festival will be on December 4th, where the film will be shown for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa region.
“The Giant” narrates all the inspiring moments that the life of the British-Yemeni boxing champion entailed, as he is one of the most prominent boxing symbols in the United Kingdom, starting from his humble childhood to his amazing success towards the world championship, highlighting his close relationship with his Irish coach, Brendan Ingle, and the pivotal role he played in his brilliant sporting career. The price of his success in boxing was high, as Naseem faced a lot of racism and hatred during the 1980s and 1990s. To become an icon in the world of sports.

“Lost Land” movie:
“Lost Land,” the first feature film presented in the Rohingya language, directed by Akio Fujimoto, tells the story of two brothers fleeing persecution in Myanmar, and embarking on an arduous journey across the sea to Malaysia. This journey represents a journey of survival and the search for safety amid the suffering of asylum and displacement. The film reflects a real refugee experience, as non-professional actors participated in the acting, who lived the refugee experience themselves, and the calm visual photography enhances the viewer’s experience. The events of the film “Irkalla: Gilgamesh’s Dream”, directed by Muhammad Jabara Al-Daraji, take place in the streets of Baghdad, where it follows a child named “Sham Sham”, and his friend “Modi”, who face the difficulties of life amid the cruelty of war and violence. Together, the two children discover the legend of Gilgamesh, which inspires them and helps them on their journey to survive. The film is characterized by a strong human feeling, reflecting the psychological effects of wars on children and young people, and highlighting the difficulty of living during wars.

“The Stories” movie:
The film “The Stories”, directed by Abu Bakr Shawky, deals with a long love story between “Ahmed and Liz”, who have been corresponding with each other since 1967. It reviews the effects of war and social conflicts on individuals through that friendship, and highlights the challenges that Egypt has faced during the past decades, through a creative narrative. The film reflects the impact of wars on human relations, and how friendship and love can overcome challenges.

With a distinguished performance by actress Chang Hye-jin, who embodies the role of the mother. The film provides a deep insight into human feelings in the face of emotional pain.
“Sink” movie:
The movie “Sink,” directed by Zein Deri, tells the story of “Nadia,” a woman who struggles to maintain her marriage, while trying to rediscover herself and her personal identity. In the background, Nadia faces a complicated relationship with her isolated, genius son, who suffers from psychological problems, which increases the psychological pressure on her. The film also displays the strength of motherhood in facing emotional and social challenges, and reflects the internal struggle that the characters experience in order to preserve their lives and their families.

Rich dialogue and discussion sessions:
In its fifth session, the Red Sea International Film Festival will witness, throughout its ten days, many seminars and dialogue sessions with the brightest stars of Arab and international art, most notably the artist Amir Al-Masry, the hero of the film “The Giant”, which opens the activities of this session, and the Tunisian director Kawthar Ben Hania, nominated for an Oscar for her film “Daughters of Olfa”, and the director of the film “The Voice of Hind Rajab”, participating in the “Festival”.
A dialogue session will also be held for the Saudi artist, Yaqoub Al-Farhan, the star of the movie “A Matter of Life or Death,” and another for the star Lebleba, for whom – during the “event” – the movie “Passport or Funeral” will be shown, in addition to a group of seminars for the most prominent Bollywood stars, led by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and the brightest Hollywood stars, the most important of whom is Sean Baker.
Throughout the days of the “Festival”, a group of the most prominent recent films that have succeeded in winning international awards will be screened, while honoring the legacy of Egyptian cinema by showing two rare films, by director Ahmed Badrakhan, starring the icon of Arab art, Umm Kulthum, after their restoration with precision (4K), by the Red Sea International Film Festival Foundation and the Egyptian Media Production City. The “Festival” screenings will also witness the first Arab showing of the Palestinian film “Palestine 36,” directed by Anne-Marie Jacir, his country’s representative at the “Oscars,” in the Arab Masterpieces Drama section.
