The UAE government issues a federal decree law amending some provisions of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry Law

The UAE government issued a federal decree law amending a number of provisions of Federal Law No 22 For a year 2000 Regarding the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, in a legislative step aimed at modernizing the legal framework of the Federation of Chambers, enhancing its role in developing the commercial and industrial sectors, and activating its contribution to supporting the national economy in accordance with the state’s strategic directions.

The decree law included replacing the official name of the federation to become the “Federation of Emirates Chambers of Commerce and Industry,” emphasizing its comprehensive federal role and unifying the institutional identity of the federation, in a manner consistent with the requirements of the next stage and the UAE’s position in the regional and international economic system.

To enhance institutional efficiency, the decree law abolished the General Assembly from the Union’s organizational structure, while expanding the powers of the Board of Directors to be the highest body responsible for drawing up policies and strategic plans, approving budgets and regulations, and proposing to join international agreements and treaties related to the Union’s activities.

The decree law also granted the Board of Directors the authority to establish branches or offices inside or outside the country in a way that serves the Federation’s objectives and enhances its commercial and industrial presence and representation at the local and international levels.

In the context of enhancing governance and clarity of leadership responsibilities, the decree law included the addition of a new article concerned with defining the powers of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federation of Emirates Chambers of Commerce and Industry, granting him the powers to propose policies and plans, follow up on the implementation of the Federation’s work, approve administrative and financial structures and regulations, and issue the necessary decisions to ensure the effectiveness of institutional performance.

This legislative amendment comes as an extension of the UAE’s approach to developing the economic legislation system and establishing a more dynamic and efficient business environment, thus strengthening the country’s position as a leading regional platform in trade and industry, capable of absorbing developments in the global economy and directing it towards achieving sustainable economic development.
