The attack on the woman is illogical

Egyptian artist Marwa Nagy defended artist Mona Zaki’s experience in the movie “The Woman,” considering that the attack on the work before its screening was illogical, especially since the clothes, decorations, and atmosphere of the movie, according to her opinion, accurately reflect the time period in which Umm Kulthum lived.

In statements to Erem News, Naji believed that the extent of the criticism was due to the legendary status of the Star of the East, stressing that approaching her artistic personality is a “sensitive and dangerous area” because she is an untouchable icon.

She confirmed that her performance of Umm Kulthum’s songs was an essential part of her artistic success, expressing her great pride in having her name associated with the planet of the East. At the same time, she explained that she could not abandon traditional songs in her concerts, in addition to her keenness to present her own works.

She pointed out that her start was from the Egyptian Opera House through traditional songs, considering that that stage contributed directly to her fame, stressing in return the importance of every singer having a special singing identity, and revealing her readiness to release a new singing album soon.

Regarding the best performers of Umm Kulthum’s songs, she chose Ruba El Gamal, Amal Maher, and the late Tunisian Zikra as the most prominent female voices who sang her works.

Marwa Nagy concluded by sending a touching message of support to Sherine Abdel Wahab, saying: “We miss your voice as the audience misses it. Your feeling will not be repeated, and we hope you return safely soon.”
