Employee compensation accounts for 30% of government expenditures in 9 months

Data issued by the Ministry of Finance revealed that compensation of government employees, including salaries and benefits, accounted for 30% of the total combined government expenditures during the first nine months of this year, with a value amounting to 97.16 billion dirhams, ranking second in government spending.
According to government “finance” statistics, which include the revenues and expenditures of the federal government, in addition to their counterparts at the local level, the total combined expenditures during the first nine months of the current year amounted to 320.83 billion dirhams.
The rest of the expenditures were distributed among a number of items, including: the use of goods and services at a value of 101.4 billion dirhams, ranking first in government spending, with a share of 31.6%. Spending on social benefits came third, with a value of 58.1 billion dirhams, with a share equivalent to 18% of the total combined expenses, and the rest of the expenses were distributed among items that included financial subsidies, grants, interest, capital consumption, and other expenses.
On the revenue side, the combined revenues of the UAE government during the monitoring period amounted to 408.5 billion dirhams.
According to Finance data, revenues came from several sources, the first of which was taxes at a value of 245.5 billion dirhams, constituting 60.1% of the total collected revenues.
“Other revenues” came in second place as the largest contributor to government revenues, with a value of 149.4 billion dirhams, equivalent to approximately 36.6% of the country’s government revenues.
In turn, “social contributions” ranked third and last in revenue sources, with a value of 13.6 billion dirhams, or approximately 3.3%.
