Brigitte Macron apologizes to feminist activists

In her first comment on the controversy sparked by her statements against feminist activists, Brigitte Macron said that she “regrets if she hurt the women victims,” in an interview with the Brut website.

The wife of the French President explained that she was thinking “only about the women victims,” noting that her words were within a private framework and directed to “four people,” and were not intended for publication.

When asked if she regretted those words, she said: “I can’t say I do. I am the wife of the President of the Republic, but above all I am myself. When I am in a private situation, I may express myself in an inappropriate way.”

She added that she was trying to reassure Abitan after interrupting his show, saying: “I needed reassurance. “I wanted to reassure myself, perhaps in an unsuccessful way, but I had no other words at that moment,” asserting her right to speak and think, stressing that she did not know that the conversation was filmed.

In the same interview, Brigitte Macron affirmed her commitment to supporting victims of violence and harassment, saying: “When I am asked for help in this area, I always offer it because it is a priority for me,” while preferring to work quietly and away from the spotlight.

Her statements sparked a widespread wave of solidarity with feminist activists, as many female artists and public figures expressed their support on social media.
