An American-European dispute over the use of Russia’s frozen funds to finance Kyiv

A senior Ukrainian official said that the US administration is putting pressure on European countries to dissuade them from the idea of using assets Russian frozen to support Kyiv, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will continue to work to convince the Europeans of this.
The Ukrainian official told Agence France-Presse on Wednesday: "The US administration is putting pressure on European countries to abandon the idea of using Russian assets to support Ukraine"
He added that Zelensky will go to Brussels to urge European countries to adopt the decision to use these funds, noting that there are 7 countries that have not yet announced their support for this idea."
210 billion euros
The value of the frozen Russian assets amounts to about 210 billion euros, and the European Union countries froze them following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
European Union leaders meet in Brussels on Thursday and Friday to take decisions, including those related to financing Ukraine in the next two years.
