OCHA Office: The majority of Syria’s population still needs humanitarian assistance

The recent hostilities in the region resulted in the bombing of several neighborhoods, causing a new wave of displacement, while two civilians were killed and others were injured, according to the Ministry of Health. The World Health Organization sent emergency medical supplies to health authorities as part of the response, OCHA’s office said.
Regarding the overall situation, OCHA confirmed that humanitarian needs remain acute across Syria, with 16.5 million people still in need of assistance – nearly two-thirds of the population.
Explosive ordnance contamination remains a major threat to Syrians, killing 21 people and injuring more than 60 others, half of them children, in November alone. Meanwhile, 2.5 million children remain out of school, and 40% of schools are inoperable.
It is noteworthy that the United Nations and its partners in the humanitarian field provided humanitarian assistance to more than 3 million people per month this year, despite limited humanitarian funding.
