After the killing of 47 people, Thailand and Cambodia agree to an immediate ceasefire

Declared Thailandand Cambodia, in a joint statement on Saturday, agreed on Drones and fighters.
The conflict extended to almost all border provinces on both sides of the border, which led to the collapse of a previous truce that US President Donald Trump attributed to himself.
An immediate ceasefire
The statement signed by the defense ministers of the two countries at a border crossing on the Thai side stated "The two parties agree to an immediate ceasefire immediately upon signing this joint statement, which will become effective as of 12:00 noon (05:00 GMT) on December 27, 2025.".
The statement indicated that the agreement includes: "All types of weapons and attacks on civilians, civilian objects, infrastructure and military objectives on both sides, in all cases and in all regions"
The two parties also agreed to freeze all troop movements and allow civilians living in the border areas to return to their homes as soon as possible.
The agreement also noted cooperation in efforts to clear mines and combat cybercrime, with Thailand returning 18 captured Cambodian soldiers within 72 hours.
Achieving lasting peace
Thai Defense Minister Natavon Narkvanit stated that the first three days will be "A monitoring period to ensure the seriousness of the ceasefire"
In a speech he delivered earlier on Saturday, he described the truce as… "A door to a peaceful solution" of the border dispute, and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the agreement on Saturday, according to what his spokesman said.
Stephane Dujarric said that Guterres described the ceasefire agreement as a positive step towards… "Alleviating the suffering of civilians, ending the current hostilities, and creating an environment conducive to achieving lasting peace"

Also, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk expressed his hope that the resumption of the ceasefire would pave the way for building confidence and bringing peace.
His office stressed on the "The need for affected communities and migrants to receive the necessary assistance to return home safely"
For its part, the European Union welcomed the ceasefire agreement, calling on both parties to implement it in good faith.
